Sciatica pain can be felt at any point along the sciatic nerve, which travels from the lower spine through the pelvis, down the back of the thigh and into the lower leg and foot. Sciatica symptoms can include:

  • Pain, tingling or burning sensation in the lower back that continues down one side into the leg or foot
  • Pain felt in one side of the leg or buttocks that feels worse when sitting
  • Numbness or weakness in the foot or toes
  • Pain when moving the foot or leg

Sciatica pain usually only affects one side of the lower body. Lower back pain, if experienced, is usually not as severe as leg pain.

The pain management specialists at CPS work frequently with individuals experiencing sciatica. Most people recover fully from sciatica, but it can potentially cause permanent nerve damage.
